A List Of Carbohydrate Grams

In order to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet you need to consume plenty of carbohydrates. They are the main source of energy for everything that happens in your body. The body breaks down carbs for muscles and cells to use. If you understand how carbs work in your body and follow a list of carbohydrate grams, you will be more likely to stick to a diet that consists of healthy carbohydrates, which will make it much easier to maintain your health.

Starches and sugars are the two varieties of carbs. Starches are a complex blend and are harder for your body to digest. These kinds of starches are found in breads, pasta, grains, and some vegetables. Sugars are found in cake, candy, jellies, and some fruit.

Higher carbohydrate foods often contain other nutrients such as vitamin A and C or calcium. These types of foods are fruits and vegetables and dairy products.

Foods that are high in sugar that are rich in carbs have fewer other nutrients and are not as healthy. These foods do not provide much of anything nutritionally except extra calories. Examples are molasses, corn syrup, and honey, and you should limit the intake of these types of foods.

Make healthy carbohydrate choices that give your body the most other nutrients along with the carbs. If you like to snack on crackers, make sure they are whole-wheat like Triscuits, and try the reduced-fat, low sodium version if available. Get carbs from milk but reduce the fat by drinking 1% or skim milk that is calcium fortified.

Most people do not know how many carbs they should consume per day. The going rate is about 60% of your daily calorie consumption. Foods that are both nutritional and high in carbs include cheese, chicken breast, olives, beet, tuna, salmon, and pork chops. By eating these foods you will get the carbs you need as well as other nutrients.
