5 Simple Tips To Stop Food Cravings

When it comes to cravings it can feel like the only way to avoid them is to curl up into a ball and go back to bed. Food cravings can be hard to overcome but they are not possible. In fact you can make it easier on yourself with the tips below.

1. Eat a balanced diet – Many people find that they experience intense yearnings for food by mid afternoon because simply put they have had a manic morning, skipped breakfast and have only eaten an apple for lunch! These intense yearnings for food then spill over into the evening as your body tries to catch up with calories by searching for calorie dense foods which usually turn out to be the fattiest, heaviest foods around. If you want to avoid these you need to make a motivated effort to get in a proper breakfast, lunch and dinner. Making sure you nourish the body with nutritious foods regularly will stop these.

2. Keep Occupied & Try New Things – Many craving issues that people experience, especially evening ones, are out of boredom. A lot of us don’t realize this though as we sit mindlessly in front of the TV. TV is really not relaxing, it is boring and when we find we are wanting something to eat while watching TV this is a sure sign that we are bored and reaching for food to suppress that feeling. Try using your evenings for other things than watching television. Try being creative or exercising. Try new dance classes or pick up an instrument and learn to place. Replace this time we things you enjoy or challenge you and you avoid the unnecessary evening snacking for good!

3. Help Suppress It – You could try things to put you off eating or giving in. Sometimes just brushing your teeth can help and other times sucking on a lolly is helpful. I used to crave right after dinner but have found that by simply having a lollipop I prevented myself from overeating and bingeing on other things. The distraction was also enough to let me get on with work.

4. Drink Water – Sometimes we think we are hungry when really we are just dehydrated. In fact most people who live on a cooked food diet are dehydrated. We need to be drinking more water – so if in doubt drink.

5. Wait It Out – Food fancies don’t really last that long so the best thing to do is wait a while to see if it passes. Of course sitting and waiting will just make you obsess over the food you are wanting and more than likely you will just cave. So prepare a list of things you can do for 15 minutes before you get into this type of situation, and go through the list of activites until it has passed. Spending 15 minutes to get on with housework or going for a walk can really help you beat cravings.

There are plenty of others things you can do to overcome those fake hunger pangs, but this are good starting points. Don’t let food get the better of you. They can be beaten and you don’t have to let them rule your life.
